Once Upon a Holiday... Meet Author Adam Lindale

As we are heading into the holidays looking for those perfect gifts, I thought you might be inspiried by the following interview with one of our Best Publishing Company authors, Adam Lindale. Adam is an avid scuba diver, PADI instructor, engineer, world traveler, father, and author. He currently resides in Michigan which is the setting for "Captain's Gold: An UnderSea Adventure Novel".

This fiction adventure, scheduled to launch early 2026, will live somewhere between our BestKids and Dive Adventure books. The first in a series of books for pre-teen/ teens, it is designed to spark an interest into the exciting world of scuba diving.

Enjoy reading about Adam and how a holiday gift got him started writing. Here is an short excerpt from our first conversation. 

Q: "How did you get started in writing kids books?"
A:  I just started thinking to myself, I’ve got two small boys and cool stories from being a scuba diver. I wanna write down some of these things for them. So, I started writing and making notes. One day I was like well geez if I throw in this totally fictional aspect of the story then I can connect some of these diving stories together into some books. It all developed and just kept developing into the stories that I have and ones I will be writing.”

Q: "What parts of the story are fact and what are fiction?"
A: “Actually, in the beginning of “Captain’s Gold” there's a ship wreck mentioned. That's a real ship and it happens to be that my great grandfather was the light housekeeper on the island where the wreck happened. So through the book there is some family history from my life and my wife's life and then from me being a scuba diving instructor.

Author's Note
"Just like in every work of fiction, the author develops his characters through names, physical features, actions, etc. with some frame of reference. This story is built around an actual event in an actual place, but the facts stop there. The rest of the story is merely a short adventure for fun and entertainment with a few tid-bits of actual scenes from my own life.

I am not sure, but I have a pretty strong feeling that I come from a long line of story-tellers, and for me, it all started with my father’s tales of Crabby Appleton.

Now it is my turn to tell a story."
